      Living Life to the Fullest

      Living Life to the Fullest

After sustaining a fall at home which resulted in a hip fracture, Mdm Chen had to undergo surgery.

Once living independently in her HDB studio apartment, Mdm Chen has mainly relied on her savings and modest government schemes for her living expenses. After rehabilitation, she was assessed to require long-term nursing care due to her functional decline and she has since found placement at St. Andrew's Nursing Home (SANH) (Aljunied).

At SANH (Aljunied), Mdm Chen is regularly engaged in a variety of games and sessions with volunteers for nearby schools, churches or community centres. The volunteers spend time with the seniors, and teach them new songs and games too. Mdm Chen fondly recalls playing darts and the bow-and-arrow, games which she had not experienced before.

Seeing Mdm Chen's enthusiasm towards playing the musical shaker during a session with the volunteers, our Community Therapy Services team suggested that Mdm Chen join in the musical group. She gamely agreed and performed at the SANH (Aljunied) official opening on 29 July 20265.

There is a lot to learn and do here. I like to try the new things that they teach us. I want to learn whatever I don't know. I just try it out and see how it goes. I want to learn and live life fully.

Mdm Chen and her fellow residents also enjoy outings, with their most recent one to Gardens by the Bay, where the seniors were wowed by dinosaur-themed floral displays and took in the fresh air with the companionship of volunteers.

SAMH and SACS operate six nursing homes, with one more opening at Bukit Purmei in 2027. Donors and volunteers make activities and outings more accessible for beneficiaries across all our services.

Help us fill the days of our seniors with meaning and joy by donating or volunteering with us!
