St. Andrew’s Adult Home (Sengkang) – A New Residential Facility for Adults with Autism

      1 APR 2019

St. Andrew’s Autism Centre (SAAC) officially received the purpose-built St. Andrew’s Adult Home (Sengkang) [SAAH] building from the Ministry of Social and Family Development on Wednesday, 16 January 2019. St. Andrew’s Adult Autism Services and SAAH staff moved in the same day.

On 22 January 2019, SAAC management and other key staff welcomed 22 Healthcare Assistants and four Nursing Aides. Along with a Staff Nurse, the Healthcare Assistants and Nursing Aides are the frontline staff caring for SAAH’s residents.

SAAC held its first Management Committee meeting and St. Andrew’s Autism School’s Management Committee meeting at the home on Monday, 11 February 2019. To mark the occasion, SAAC also held a dedication service for SAAH, inviting the St. Andrew’s Mission Hospital (SAMH) board, heads of SAMH services, representatives from the Diocese and several Anglican churches in Singapore. Reverend David Teo led the service, with Bishop Low Jee King delivering the sermon.

SAAH received its first residents early in April 2019. The co-located Day Activity Centre (DAC) began its programme on 1 April, with 24 clients and coaches moving from the DAC at SAAC’s Elliot Road premises.
